Slow synaptic transmission in frog sympathetic ganglia.
Bullfrog ganglia contain two classes of neurone, B and C cells, which receive different inputs and exhibit different slow synaptic potentials. B cells, to which most effort has been directed, possess slow and late slow EPSPs. The sEPSP reflects a muscarinic action of acetylcholine released from boutons on B cells, whereas the late sEPSP is caused by a peptide (similar to teleost LHRH) released ...
متن کاملSynaptic Transmission at Single Boutons in Sympathetic Ganglia.
Synaptic transmission has traditionally been studied at the level of the entire nerve terminal rather than at one of its constituent boutons. Autonomic ganglia provide preparations for recording from individual boutons, as well as for determining the calcium transients necessary for transmitter release at these boutons. The results suggest a new paradigm for synaptic transmission.

A second investigation into sympathetic detonation of ammonium nitrate (AN) and ammonium nitrate-fuel oil (ANFO) was conducted to define the scaling law for safe separation from detonating ANFO. Both missileand non-missile-producing ANFO donors weighing up to 5,400 pounds were employed with equal sizedacceptors. The usual cube root scaling law was not confirmed; exponents for the relationship S...
متن کاملDiabetes Depresses Synaptic Transmission in Sympathetic Ganglia by Inactivating nAChRs through a Conserved Intracellular Cysteine Residue
Most people with diabetes develop severe complications of the autonomic nervous system; yet, the underlying causes of many diabetic-induced dysautonomias are poorly understood. Here we explore the idea that these dysautonomias results, in part, from a defect in synaptic transmission. To test this idea, we investigated cultured sympathetic neurons and show that hyperglycemia inactivates nAChRs t...
